D-Type Equipment

D-Type Equipment (possibly "D" for "Diving") is a thick, heat-resistant armor suit for Evangelions, which resembles an old-style diving suit and is fitted with coolant circulation systems. In Episode 10, to try to capture the Angel Sandalphon while it was still in a cocoon-like state inside the magma of an active volcano, Evangelion Unit-02 was fitted with D-Type Equipment so that it could dive deep into the magma itself to reach the Angel. D-Type Equipment also comes with a special Plug Suit, which expands out making the pilot look like a fat ball; the suit returns to normal appearance as the extreme pressure on the Eva's outside equalizes the internal pressure.
