On topic of that paticular scene, it's one of the worst cases of re-used footage I've seen in the show. I was having a major deja vu-moment when Zero tried to kill Rei.

Zero wasn't trying to kill Rei. She just felt violated.

And don't forget, the whole point of #14 was to reuse as much footage as possible. (Same with #20.)

And thus, Reichu, the official Eva psychologist has spoken.

... If the whole point of Ep. 14 was to re-use as much footage as possible, why didn't they just extend the "flashbacks" in the first part of the episode, huh? HUH?! :P

well, it seems as though the shoulder restraints are also used for military purposes (the spike launcher in 02)
perhaps they were removed during testing because there really was no need? (i dont think those shoulder pylons could have helped much anyways)

Then what was Ritsuko babbling about in #19? HUH?

Oh wait, it wasn't part of the REAL story. It doesn't matter.

(Sorry, I just feel a little 'fresh' today.)

My view on EVA is that the interpersonial relationships are more important then things like this, Reichu was busting my chops.

well, she does refer to them as binders
of course, (please give me slack for i have not seen the series in a while) she could have been referring to the other aspects of 01's armor, including the chest plates that busted off

I need to do it more often.

I'm pretty sure 'restraint units' (kousokugu) refers to everything. What isn't specified is what the hell is actually being restrained. I'd have to be pretty naive to think hunks of metal bolted to somebody's skin could have anything to do with restraining her (beyond the lockbolt crap, which is pretty meager 'restraint' anyway) when she has a huge cybernetic implant replacing part of her spine that they jam a 'stop signal plug' into when they don't want her doing anything, or a huge capsule containing a teenager when they want her to their bidding through relayed orders...

Conciddering how often we here the line " This shouldn't be happining ! " We should say they TRY to restrain the eva.

Yep-yep, "stop signal plug". You can also see one (well, sort of -- it's kind of dark) in episode #12, when Gendo-tachi are doing the pully thing to remove it from Yui-sama's spine.

I totally never noticed the stop plug untill I saw it in the commentary.

Incidently, when Shogouki breaks out of Rei, does she still still have the shoulder-binders on? I now that when she breaks out of the hangar and gets "cruicified" she still does, but I haven't been about to find any clear pictures of her after emerging from GNR. This picture doesn't seem to have them, though.
Tell me, is something eluding you, sunshine?
Is this not what you expected to see?
If you wanna find out what's behind these cold eyes
You'll just have to claw your way through this disguise!
