Signature Image Policy

Postby The Eva Monkey » Fri Jun 01, 2007 2:32 pm

Attention all members. I am going to begin to go through and remove images from your signatures. The reason for this is that it streamlines the forum experience, and for those on dialup, not having images everywhere makes page loading a lot quicker.

I'm sorry if this is upsetting to anyone, but I feel that this is in the best interest of the community. I understand signature images can be fun, but I really would like to streamline things a little bit more around here.

Text and links are fine, just don't go overboard. And please, don't get the brilliant idea to put ascii images in your sigs.

If you have the time, please remove the images from your sigs, it will save me a lot of effort, and is much appreciated.

It's a quick patch to the code to just not process [img] tags in sigs.

Streamlining...what does that matter, anyway? People have image signatures because they want to, so isn't that just a hinderance? And I think they're nice to look at. It's not like our sigpics were very big anyway; I don't see how small pictures like that is a problem to dialup users, or to how "clean" the forum looks.
He was warrior and mystic, ogre and saint, the fox and the innocent, chivalrous, ruthless, less than a god, more than a man. There is no measuring Muad'Dib's motives by ordinary standards. In the moment of his triumph, he saw the death prepared for him, yet he accepted the treachery. Can you say he did this out of a sense of justice? Whose justice, then? Remember, we speak now of the Muad'Dib who ordered battle drums made from his enemies' skins, the Muad'Dib who denied the conventions of his ducal past with a wave of the hand, saying merely: "I am the Kwisatz Haderach. That is reason enough."

I agree, though I've never really cared that much one way or the other. But it does make the board a lot easier to read, it doesn't skip around while loading the sigs when I click on the last post in a thread, and it completely removes the possibility of image sigs slowly growing larger and larger (both in onscreen size and file size) because of nobody policing the policy. Forums like ANF look nice and streamline because you can't have images in the sigs.

Although I really don't care on way or another, I wonder if this might be the case here?

Like the text walls people put in their sigs are any worse than small pictures.
