(Re)build of the EvaGeeks.org Forums

In a process not entirely unlike complementation, the EvaMonkey.com forums have found a new home here at EvaGeeks.org, amid the Wiki, Commentary, etc as a (keystone) part of the now monolithic NGE Fan Geeks Project. The details are best left to other posts by more senior individuals on the front page.

The Eva Monkey forums should have been transferred without incident from their rest home at drinian.org. Thanks once again to drinian for his generous interim hosting.

In addition, as was the case at drinian.org, the forum links have been changed to point to the new location of the board here at evageeks.org. This process may not be perfect, so be vigilant for any errors. Be vigilant as well for any more serious flaws like missing users, pms, posts and even topics! However, I think(hope) the transfer has gone smoothly.

The standard causalities .... the site's visual design. User registration is still by Admin activation only, but on the bright side, we're looking into installing a custom Evangelion based captcha system which should hopefully keep the spammers and the unwashed masses? at bay. Stay tuned.

In the meantime, please returned to your regular discussion topics.

EDIT:
Avatars have been saved! And the double rank problem has also been fixed. Thanks once again to drinian.

Everything looks fine to me. We'll need a rules link tho (it was also missing when the forums was at Drinian's host).

I'll be making the announcement on EM after work, and I'll be sending drinian a splash/redirect to be placed in the forum directory on his server.

Excellent work OMF. We're ready to rock, hopefully I can find time to type part of my statement during work, so when I get home, I can do some design, and post the announcement to the front of EM.

Nothing that you missed. Back on evamonkey.com, there was a link to the forum rules at the top of the page (FAQ, Search, Memberlist, etc.). It wasn't transfered over to drinian.org and it was just a link to a page generated by the content manager on evamonkey.com (or maybe it was just a static page, I can't remember). But it's something we should think about adding, I've had to PM a few new members about images in the sigs and stuff.

http://www.evamonkey.com/forum_rules.php

or, fallback

http://web.archive.org/web/20070102055526/www.evamonkey.com/forum_rules.php

the latter of which needs updating about image signatures. Though it's not too difficult to patch the phpBB code to just not process images in signatures (or indeed any sort of linkage based on where in the post and the poster's profile)

I'll try adding the rule link, as well as a wiki and main page link, and an proper image header as soon as I get the source for the chalkboard. I'll also look back into the custom captcha....

Edit:
... which seems to have worked. Over six months and no successful bot signups. Then again, the domain may not have caught their attention.

Do you have web server logs -- those would show if the registration page was touched at all.

My stats are not that detailed unfortunately. Still, we can go ahead with the captcha and see how it works out.

once more, the drama begins....

the stated goal is that EvaGeeks.org will become for Evangelion fandom what TheOneRing.net was for Lord of the Rings fandom

When I tried accessing the old forum, I almost had a heart attack when I saw every thread was locked. Glad to see that things will be continuing here. :D

Well, that's that for the old site, but nothing has been truly lost. The good works can still continue, and Aaron may yet meet Anno, so there is still hope in this world.
Kaji: Commander Ikari, I've come to give you mysterious objects and say cryptic things.

Gendo: Excellent work, my impish little toadie.

Rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated. I do intend to get back to some good old fashioned eva analysis in the near future.

this is truly surreal

I feel like I am entering the rabbit hole in Alice in Wonderland or something

I am puzzled to why EM has decided to do this

did he feel like his original vision did not come to fruition and that he needs to "start over"?

I remember months ago when he posted that he was not loving life and was feeling more and more unhappy with his site and anime in general

I would like him to explain himself in detail

this happened so damn sudden too... :?

I was never an avid poster, nor a friend to anyone at the Evamonkey forums. I'm new, and I like how you guys are restarting. This looks like a wonderful community. :)
