In conjunction with getting 1 million “likes” on Facebook, Funimation has announced that it has acquired Evangelion 3.0. On Lee’s blog over at Funimation, it says:
Flower Mound, TX – June 11, 2013 – In celebration of hitting the 1 million fan milestone on their official Facebook page, FUNimation has announced the acquisition of Evangelion 3.0.
Not a whole lot of information, not sure if we’re getting the 3.0 theatrical cut or the 3.33 home video cut, or something entirely different. No release date. It looks like they may be keeping with the same color scheme (sky blue-ish) as it would be in line with the previous releases.
So a few days ago Yoshiyuki Sadamoto’s Evangelion Manga, which started serialization in December 1994, has finally come to an end after 96 chapters. The July 2013 issue of Young Ace will have the final chapter, titled Last Stage of the manga.
Personally, I’ve had mixed feelings about where Sadamoto has taken the story, but it’s still worth the read, with the biggest complaint in general being that it took so long (nearly 20 years for 96 chapters). Now that it’s done, there’s no reason not to check out the manga. And if your in North America and the prohibitive prices of some of the out of print volumes discourage you, you can read them all online at Viz’s website (as long as your in the proper region). Viz, however, hasn’t put up this latest chapter yet, and as of this post, don’t know of a timeline of when it’ll be available. If you’re really hard up to read it, I know it’s available, translated, in the usual places that you’d find new manga chapters.
Recently, a certain Evangelion related torrent file has appeared on the internet, carrying an [EGF] moniker. We’d like to stress that this file is not in any way endorsed or published by evageeks.org or the Evageeks forums. We do not do torrent files.
However, many forum members are extensively involved in the translation of many Evangelion related materials, some of which were apparently used in the file. As the result of a mix up, the forums themselves were “credited” in the filename, despite having nothing to do with the release.
Regrettably, the internet in general and bittorrent in particular has no “take backs”, so it is currently impossible for us or anyone else to remove, amend, or correct any of the released files. All we can do is clarify the situation. The Submit button can be a harsh mistress.
Evageeks has never released, nor will at any point release fansubs, or torrents, or the like. The only translations we employ are for purely textual purposes, used in the Commentary Project, or hosted solely as reference material for the english speaking fandom. We can’t control what the internet does with translations found here, and can only ask that in future, if translations found or discussed here are used in any such projects, that we not be credited.
For some non-Evangelion related news, it looks like the mastermind behind Evangelion, director, writer, producer Hideaki Anno will be the voice actor doing the voice for Jiro Horikoshi, one of the main characters from Miyazaki’s new movie (produced by Studio Ghibli), Kaze Tachinu (or “The Wind Is Rising”) which is due to be released in Japan this July 20th.
Anno worked as an animator on Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, another movie directed by Hayao Miyazaki, in 1984 and has always spoken highly of the elder Miyazaki. Miyazaki’s last movie was the 2008 Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea.
Miyazaki published a manga also called Kaze Tachinu, serialized between February 25th to November 25th in 2009 in “Model Graphix”, a model hobby magazine published in Japan.

Eventhough the official release date for the much anticipated Evangelion 3.33, You can (not) redo is the 24th of April, many online vendors sent theirs out for delivery a few days early. Mine went out a few days ago and just arrived, 2 days (well, one and a half) early than the street date. I ordered from CD Japan since I have reward points there and practically got it for half the price, thus it came with a Rei Ayanami mouse pad, which is a little small to be used as an actual mousepad.

The box is very similar to the Evangelion 2.22 packaging, except the booklet that comes with it is much more substantive. At first glance, looks like much of the same stuff as from the theatrical booklet. Also, there’s no film strip for this one.
The black disc is the BD and the blue one is the soundtrack. The booklet doesn’t have page numbers, but looks to be about 30 or so pages, printed on heavy paper, with various credits, chapter listings, and soundtrack info toward the back.
Seeing as we’re only a week away from the official Evangelion 3.33 DVD/BD Japanese release, the promo trailer isn’t going to be of that much interest. Minna no Evafan has a bunch of pictures of the promo.
The only possible bonus from the promo is to get the first sneak peak at the possible updates Khara has made to the 3.0 film for the 3.33 home release. The pictures aren’t really good enough to do a comparison with any of the low quality cam rips that have been floating around. So maybe we’ll update the news post when specific differences are found or when a good quality version of the actual promo is released outside of Japan.
Madman Entertainment have recently announced that Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo will be screened as part of ReelAnime 2013, which is likely to hit cinemas around Australia and New Zealand near the end of the year. This is the first official word we have heard about the screening after being teased with small pieces of information over the last year. There are no dates yet set, with the ReelAnime 2013 website simply saying “Coming Late 2013”.
ReelAnime is an anime film screening festival organised by Madman Entertainment every 2 or so years which screens recent Japanese releases that have often yet to be licensed in either Australia or the US. Previous years have seen screenings of all the previous Evangelion Rebuild films, as well as Summer Wars, Wolf Children, Redline and many others.
Last month we made a post about a possible new Neon Genesis Evangelion Project accouncement in Young Ace. Minna no Evafan made a blog post with some pictures and some info about the announcement. Note that the announcement is the one in the May issue (out in April) but the actual new “project” will be in the issue after.

Today at Atlanta’s MomoCon, the Toonami question-and-answer panel announced that Evangelion 1.11 will premiere on Adult Swim’s Toonami block next Sunday, March 17, at 1am as part of the “Toonami Birthday Party” movie night. The original Neon Genesis Evangelion TV series had its first two episodes air on the Toonami’s afternoon block in 2003, though it wasn’t part of Adult Swim then.

In the April issue of Young Ace, the Kadokawa Shoten publication that publishes Sadamoto’s Neon Genesis Evangelion manga, will include a teaser for a new Neon Genesis Evangelion project. The April issue of Young Ace will be released on Monday, March 4th and the “Special Program” will premiere in the May issue, which will be released on Thursday, April 4th.
