Evangelion Store @ REAL in Harajuku, Tokyo

Harajuku, a neighborhood in Tokyo known as the fashion capital of the world, will be the site of a permanent Evangelion Store that will open this Fall. Not much information is given about the store, but the announcement says there will be unique items for sale and it will be a place where special events will be held.

Sadamoto’s Evangelion Manga Resumes

The August issue of Young Ace magazine contains a “Clear File” for Asuka, similar to the Rei Clear File that was included in the March issue, and looks to have news that a new stage will be in the September issue, due on sale on August 4th.

Evangelion 2.0 TV Broadcast

On Friday, August 26, NTV will broadcast a TV version of Evangelion 2.0, You can (not) advance, at 9pm. There was a TV broadcast of Evangelion 1.0 a while after its debut in theatres that didn’t have anything noticeably different from the 1.01 DVD release except for the preview. Like the 1.01 announcement, we’re given no indication of what changes the TV version will have in store for 2.0 and there was a short mention to make sure to watch “until the end”, but there may not be anything different at all. Nevertheless, I’m sure by August 26 we’ll see various rips of Evangelion 2.0 TV Edition. Here’s to hoping we at least get an updated preview.

Sunday Supanova Wrap Up

The Supanova Pop Culture Expo in Sydney this weekend was apparently a record breaker, with pre-sales for the Saturday reaching over 20,000.

Supanova specializes in science fiction, Anime and manga, as well as several other things such as wrestling, with live wrestling performances appearing throughout both days. This year featured a number of special guests, but the ones we are most interested in are Yuko Miyamura, Tiffany Grant and Matt Greenfield. I attended on the Sunday, where Miyamura gave a panel and Q&A session with her translator early in the day, and Tiffany and Matt hosted a separate Q&A shortly after midday. New GAINAX Anime: Dantalian no Shoka

Nothing new in the Evangelion front since the discovery that Evangelion: 3.0/Q may be further behind schedule than most anticipated as well as Hideaki Anno telling fans to “please be patient”. So there’s going to be a short update about our friends over at GAINAX.

Their new upcoming show this July Bibliotheca Mystica de Dantalian (ダンタリアンの書架) released a promotional video, giving us a first look at the series.

The premise revolves around Hugh Anthony Disward, who finds a library in the mansion he has inherited, and a girl Dalian who has access to the prohibited books of the demons. It is directed by Yutaka Uemura, who has previously worked with Mahoromatic and Gurren Lagann, and is expected to be 13 episodes. This fantasy title contrasts pretty heavily with GAINAX’s previous show, Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt. Here’s hoping for some upcoming news about Evangelion.

Evangelion at Harajuku

Not much in the line of news here, but a nice collection of pictures. Most of this stuff can be seen over at the Radio EVA website, but the Revelations/ store in the Harajuku district of Tokyo (a large shopping district often referred to as the fashion capital of the world) has put up a blog to show pictures of the store. You can also buy stuff from their website.

A lot of the merchandise seem like typical Radio EVA stuff: bags, shoes, clothing that look fairly normal but have Evangelion related imagery embedded somewhere in them. Other stuff is more blatant. The “Revelations/” store in Harajuku does collaborative work with studios and artists, in an attempt to fuse everyday clothes with subcultures, in this case, Evangelion.

New Kotobukiya Kaworu and Mark 6 Figure

Good news for all you Kaworu fan boys and girls out there, Kotobukiya is adding to their 1/6 scale Pilot+Eva series with a Kaworu, the first male pilot to appear. Kaworu is wearing his redesigned Rebuild plugsuit, and sits atop a stone bust of the Mark 6 Evangelion, which appears in Evangelion 2.0: You Can (not) Advance.

The series so far has included Rei atop Unit-00, Asuka atop Unit-02, and Mari wearing her pink plugsuit atop Beast mode Unit-02. There has also been a 1/6 scale Misato released, but it is unclear whether or not this figure is included in the same series.

The Kaworu figure is set for release in October this year, and will retail for approximately ¥6,800.
