Forum member Joppu made a screensaver based on the iPhone countdown app that was released a few months ago. It displays the time, as any good clock should. It works with Windows and possibly with OS X and Linux. Click “discuss” for more details.

Several songs from the Rebuild of Evangelion movies have been put up on Nico Video, a Japanese video sharing/streaming website, with songs sung in English and visuals from the 2 movies. I’m no expert on Evangelion OST’s, so I only recognize the songs from watching the movies and I’m not sure what versions/differences there are from the readily available OSTs. Still worth a mention since these are “music videos” for Evangelion. (Warning: may have some Evangelion 2.0 spoilers in these videos, although it’s mostly trailer footage)
You need an account in order to watch videos on Nico, it’s all in Japanese but it’s not hard to sign up.

The second volume of the anime/manga magazine Young Ace features a plugsuit clad Asuka on the cover was released yesterday. Just like with the first volume, which featured Rei on the cover, this volume includes a Kaiyodo figure. The first volume hit and left the shelves pretty quickly, and with Asuka on the cover of this one, it’ll probably sell out even quicker. For people who don’t live in Japan, you can always grab a copy from Amazon or your local importer.

Since the crappy camrip of Evangelion 2.0, You Can (Not) Advance, leaked some time ago, people have been madly translating parts of the movie. Well, someone finally posted an SRT subtitle file timed to the camrip, but it’s in Spanish. Didn’t take long for someone else to take the Spanish subtitles and convert them to English using a translation program. So for people who simply can’t wait for proper subtitles, you can look in this forum thread. The subtitles are VERY Engrishy, so be forewarned. I don’t know Spanish so I don’t know how good those subtitles are, but the Engrish subs are guaranteed to be a bit lacking. At any rate, with subtitle timings, a good English translation should be a little easier since the timing part is already done.
Update 8/4/2009: The final version of the Spanish subtitles can be found at Jagam’s blog.

Summer Wars, a movie by director Mamoru Hosoda (The Girl Who Leapt Through Time) with character designs by Yoshiyuki Sadamoto that will be in theatres in Japan on August 1st, has some of his designs appearing in the Web Animation Magazine.
Although this doesn’t really have anything to do with Evangelion, it’s still pretty cool to see some of Sadamoto’s artwork. Sadamoto, who also did the Character Designs for “The Girl Who Leapt Through Time“, will be rejoining much of the same cast who produced that movie, along with Madhouse Studios. After seeing the HD teaser and the trailer, it reminds me a lot of Girl Who Leapt Through Time, which is a good thing.

The Tokyo Wonder Festival 2009, an annual event to showcase and sell garage kit models, had lots of nice Evangelion related goods this year. Gainax had their obligatory booth which included a “geek room” and sold some custom cells.
A lot of other very talented artisans also displayed various Evangelion garage kit figures and models, including the set of Rei Ayanami figures on “Eva” motorbikes seen on the right. These would be nice to own, but unfortunately will be hard to get a hold of if you didn’t attend the event or don’t have a lot of money to spend. Among the custom figures are some that will be available in a larger production run, like the Rebuild Asuka Figure and various Revoltech figures. Warning, some of these pictures may contain Evangelion 2.0 spoilers, so don’t click on the “Read More” unless you don’t mind being slighly spoiled.

Back in May, there was an announcement that we posted about that said the new Evangelion movie, 2.0, You Can (Not) Advance, will be screening at the Animotion Film Festival in Bonn, Germany, in the original Japanese with English subtitles. A few weeks ago, rumors started surfacing that Animotion wasn’t going to be screening the movie. One of our forum members, TMSIDR, recently verified that the movie won’t be screening at Animotion.

The PC Freaks blog reviewed and put up some pictures of Sharp’s new SH-06 Nerv mobile phones which we first posted about back in May. It’s mainly a description of the many pictures posted of the box, the accessories, and the phone itself, with a note that more will get posted later. Some pictures and features of the phone was released by NTT DoCoMo last June and posted in Trendy, but these are the first impressions of an actual phone.
Aside from everything being covered in Nerv logos, it looks like your average mobile phone you see in Japan. The carrying case looks a little excessive, but something to note is that it has slots for the external camera, allowing you to use it while it is still in the holder. The manual looks is covered with Nerv stuff, no surprise there. They did note that the speech in the phone doesn’t seem to include the voices of Hyuga and Aoba and that because it’s so thin, the battery life seems to be shorter compared to the other SH-06 models.
