Tickets will be $7 and the audio will be the English dub by Funimation. This will be a good chance for people to see the movie in theatres as well as getting to hear what the English dub will be like. Evangelion 1.11 BluRay Reviews

The BluRay release of 1.11 was today (in Japan) and already we’re flooded with screenshots and online reviews of the new product. For the most part, the screenshots make it look good. The brightness issues with the 1.01 DVD release looks to have been alleviated and the resolution is clean and crisp (thanks to CtHuLhU for finding these screenshots):

Some links and reviews (in Japanese):

  • Akihabara News, including pictures of the packaging.
  • ASCII.jp, some more pictures of the packaging.
  • AV Watch review, includes a breakdown of the SBMV Technology.
  • Intermezzo does a visual comparison of the 1.01 DVD vs the 1.11 BD. The difference is literally night and day.
  • Eva Emergency News has a 1.01 DVD vs 1.11 DVD comparison, although he mentions that his PowerDVD player artificially made everything brighter.

The Misato Katsuragi News Project (PS3)

Misato, PS3 game? Kotaku.com mentions that the Blu-Ray release of Evangelion 1.11 includes an advertisement for a new Evangelion game, coming to the PS3. The developer is stated to be Bandai-Namco as well as Cellius Inc. More information will be posted as it becomes available.

EDIT: According to member  Lleonard Pler’s findings on the Vandel.net forums, this release titled The Misato Katsuragi News Project isn’t a game at all, but a monthly News Reader (of course, there’s a fee) featuring Misato. The service will be available June 6th from the Playstation store.

Evangelion 1.11 Trailer

Evangelion 1.11 TrailerA trailer for the May 27th release of Evangelion 1.11 – You are (not) alone appeared on the internet. It’s been put up on youtube and I’ve stored a local copy of it here (WMV, uncropped). The trailer is about 30 seconds long and it doesn’t appear to show all that much of the new footage that’s going to be in the 1.11 release. Some of the obvious ones are:

Hikaru Utada Returns for 2.0, plus EVA EXTRA

“Theme Song” / Hikaru UtadaEVA EXTRA 02 coverWell, she supplied the version of “Fly Me To the Moon (In Other Words)” we’ve heard in trailers for both movies so far, and the theme song for 1.0, “Beautiful World”. And now, according to the free promotional newsletter EVA EXTRA 02 that began distribution today, Utada is on 2.0’s staff for “Theme Song”. The name of the song hasn’t been announced yet, though.

The EVA EXTRA issues seem to be each taking their cover from whatever trailer debuted earlier that month. (Lazy as we are, we didn’t cover the first issue in a news blurb, so here’s the cover of that.) According to the official movie site, we still have one issue to go, to be released in the second half of June. Odds are, its cover will come from a third trailer that will help supply a final burst of hype for the film. And, it seems like there’s a pretty good chance that the new song will make its debut there.

Check out the Eva Emergency Blog link for some sketches in EVA EXTRA 2 by assistant director Kazuya Tsurumaki. (The first volume featured Asuka, so the blogger rather reasonably speculates that we’ll get Mari in the third.) By the way: Anybody with a copy of these EVA EXTRA things, post some high-res scans somewhere. Please?

Evangelion 2.0 Trailer #2

2.0 Trailer 2, Rei with FishIt didn’t take long for the crappy cellphone rip of the 2nd Evangelion 2.0 trailer to hit the internet, but surprisingly, Khara put the 2nd trailer on the Bandai Channel post haste. As usual, only Japanese IP’s can hit those Bandai Channel links, but again, some asx tricks and you get the MMS link which doesn’t have any region restrictions. For those who fail to get MMS to work (come on, this is 2009), you can grab a cropped, xvid/mp3 version of it here.

Lots of new juicy bits of 2.0 sneak peaks in this trailer, too.

Eva Episodes on Xbox Live Marketplace

It seems ADV Films and Anime Network, its digital media affiliate, have been adding various anime titles to Xbox Live. Today, ADV made the 26 TV episodes of Evangelion available on Xbox Live Marketplace. The episodes are 160 points. Looks like only the English dub is available, so sorry, sub people. Anyway, if you want to have Eva on your Xbox and prefer the dub, here’s your chance.
