In my previous post I missed on the details for the simultaneous viewing events, which seem to be held in a talk show format complete with a celebrity host(MC) and guests. The URLs and details for the events are as follows, translated from the Khara Evangelion page –
1st night: “Evangelion New Theatrical Version: Introduction” Simultaneous Viewing Event March 5th (Friday) 20: 00-22: 30
3rd night “Evangelion New Theatrical Version: Q” + “Evangelion New Theatrical Version + Shin Evangelion Theatrical Version Opening 12 minutes 10 seconds 10 frames” simultaneous viewing event March 7th (Sun) 21: 45-24: 30
MC: Koji Higashino, Guest: Seitaro Mukai (Tianjin), Reina Triendl, etc.
Event URL: https://youtu.be/Pa8zVBMG078
-End of March 7th viewing details
March 7th (Sun) 24: 00- Only “Evangelion New Theatrical Version + Shin Evangelion Theatrical Version Opening 12 minutes 10 seconds 10 frames” premieres
In addition, there will be live streaming from the Prime Video Japan official twitter (@PrimeVideo_JP) with the event hashtag being “Eva simultaneous viewing strategy” ( ヱヴァ同時視聴作戦)
Additionally, the same page announces a simultaneous viewing event for the three previous movies. Evangelion Jo (1.0), Ha (2.0), and Q (3.0, possibly 3.333) will be screened on the the official YouTube channel of Amazon Prime Video and twitter for 3 days, March 5 (Friday), 6 (Saturday), and 7 (Sunday), 2021. During the Q simultaneous viewing event on March 7, a new unreleased part will be added to the video released at the opening screening event “Operation 0706” held in 2019.
We have also decided to release “Evangelion New Theatrical Version + Shin Evangelion Theatrical Version Opening 12 minutes 10 seconds 10 frames”. This opening video will be streamed live on Prime Video’s official YouTube channel and twitter, and will be premiered on the official Khara YouTube channel.
While this might be a combination of AVANT 1 (screened in 2019 in Paris) and AVANT 2 or a lengthened version of AVANT 1 with extra cuts, the separate mention of “Operation 0706” possibly suggests that the footage might be new. Either way, it looks to be interesting.
There is a 2 week period during which the premiere video may be watched by Amazon Prime members at the URL link below –
In addition, after distribution, you can watch it exclusively on Prime Video for 2 weeks only! If you are a Prime member, you can enjoy “Evangelion New Theatrical Version + Shin Evangelion Theatrical Version Opening 12 minutes 10 seconds 10 frames” as many times as you like during the period. Prime Video “Previous Evangelion New Theatrical Version + Shin Evangelion Theatrical Version Opening 12 minutes 10 seconds 10 frames” URL: https://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B08XQG9V6T March 8th (Monday) 0:30 to March 21st (Sunday) 23:59, 2021 Unlimited viewing exclusive distribution * This URL will be valid from 0:30 on March 8, 2021 (Monday).
Shin Eva will be screened on March 8 at the Grand Cinema Sunshine in Ikebukuro, Tokyo as early as 7:00 am with the final show at 17:15 for a total of 19 showtimes, which is significant thanks to the limited screentimes caused by the continuing state of emergency in the four key Japanese prefectures of Tokyo, Chiba, Kanagawa and Saitama. This is still significant considering the limited business hours imposed on theaters.
For those eager to see the movie release as soon as possible, don’t worry, it’s gonna be out there in 5 days! And for those eager to be spoiled as soon as possible – and we know you’re out there (wink, wink) – don’t worry either!
A tidbit from user GhostlyOcam (who is awesome) – Megumi Ogata has a new song for her new album written by Junichi Sato (of the band fhana) that she considered an unofficial “image song” for Shin Eva and Shinji.
GhostlyOcam also provided a translation of the quoted tweet –
(Quoted Tweet) I asked Junichi Sato (of fhana): “What if we make a song as if it’s an insert for the final Eva film?” He doesn’t know how the films ends and I didn’t tell tell him, yet. But what he wrote is a ‘best of the best’ song. The lyrics are my final feelings as Shinji ≒ Please listen to it after watching Shin Eva.
(Quote Tweet) The song’s title is “Repeat”, completely from my personal feelings. As Shinji who has been a part of me for the last 25 years ≒ It is my feelings as Shinji after finishing the final film. As Shinji, who’s still alive in me even after Shin Eva is finished. (So it’s not an official song, please understand)
This shows how deeply Evangelion influences both its creators and its fans – Shinji Ikari is still “a part of” his voice actor a quarter-century after his debut, and will remain a part of Megumi Ogata even after his journey in Shin Eva is finished. Official song or not, I think there are many of us who would understand her feelings.
Ogata’s album is out on April 21:
Megumi Ogata fans in particular and Evangelion fans in general, you have something to look forward to even after Shin Eva releases!
A few things have happened lately. Like other news outlets have reported, the Japanese prefectures of Tokyo, Chiba, Kanagawa and Saitama have requested an additional two weeks of lockdown, with understandable public frustration.
This means that theaters in those prefectures will have to continue to operate under lockdown conditions, with reduced operating hours and additional seating restrictions. This is likely to bring down the opening week totals for Shin Eva, given the large population in those prefectures.
That being said, it appears that the movie is NOT in any danger of a delay, and tickets go on presale at midnight Japan time on Friday, March 5 (47 hours and 30 minutes from now)
So don’t worry, folks. We’ll get our Shin Eva fix.
When it rains, it pours when it comes to 3.0 + 1.0 news. Now we have the next time preview from Evangelion 3.333 out on Youtube, embed below –
While this trailer’s contents had been rumored about previously, it’s good to see this actually out there! One more thing to make our mouths water for the March 8 release, folks!
Hikaru Utada’s “One Last Kiss” will be available for streaming and downloads beginning March 9, one day after the March 8 release of Evangelion 3.0 + 1.0. Utada fans, be ready!
Ladies and gentlemen, the new release date for Evangelion 3.0 + 1.0 Thrice Upon A Time is March 8.
GET HYPED, FOLKS!
Also, a new image courtesy of the ever-reliable GhostlyOcam, showing Shin Eva’s runtime. (EDIT: The image is a screencap of the relevant page on the Khara website which appears to be down at the moment)
Shin Eva’s runtime is 155 minutes, which is 1 minute longer than the previous Eirin report (and validates it!) and puts it as a contender for one of the longest animated movies of all time. That ought to be something to look forward to on March 8!
Shiro Sagisu gave us a sneak peek of one musical piece in Shin Eva via twitter. This particular piece sounds like it’ll be Shin Eva’s rendition of Decisive Battle. Courtesy of GhostlyOcam on the forums.
The robot-translation of the tweet appears to be interesting.
It’s the familiar emergency music (do you say it yourself?) I hope it ends with a peaceful major chord like this ending …
(Google translation of tweet text)
Is Sagisu hinting at something in the Shin Eva ending, or is it a simple wish he expresses here?
Shin Eva has a 2 hour 34 minute runtime and is classified as “G” for General Audiences (all patrons admitted) by Eirin, Japan’s Film Classification and Rating Organization. Courtesy of @macgyjp on Twitter –
Shin Evangelion Theatrical Edition Shinji Ikari, who was the cause of Third Impact has lost his will to live… Will he be able to recover? An animated film that continues the story of Evangelion New Theatrical Edition: Q from 2012. (2 hours 34 minutes)
Examination Date: 2021-01-18/Eirin Number: 121619 Company (Country of Origin) – [Distribution] Toei, khara (Toho, Toei)
Translation by GhostlyOcam, original tweet by @macgyjp as linked above.
The Eirin site is unavailable for users outside of Japan, so we’ll have to wait for someone there to look up the Eirin Number. But this is solid information that the new movie is much longer than previous entries in the franchise (particularly Evangelion Q, which was only 1 hour 36 minutes long).
UPDATE: It is reported that the Eirin link has been pulled down, which suggests it was put up prematurely. However, there is no reason to doubt its veracity – it’s the real deal, folks.
